About Claire
“

the search for the real is never ending
”
Claire Ward is a photographer based in Southeastern Michigan in her final term at Kalamazoo College. She is graduating in June 2021 with a degree in Studio Arts, along with a minor in Psychology and a concentration in Women, Gender, and Sexuality.
Moving through her final year at Kalamazoo amidst a global pandemic, Ward’s focus shifted to examine the relationship between the skewed representations of women on social media and the effects of this representation on mental health. This culminated in her Senior Individualized Project, titled the everyday feminine, which renegotiates the way women are characterized in photographs. She focuses on highlighting a natural view of femininity, rather than a carefully crafted objectification for male desire.
